Avec elles, le réalisateur a choqué la morale de l'Europe de l'après-guerre, ouvert la voie à la Nouvelle Vague, incarné une dolce vita à la française et imaginé un érotisme populaire aujourd'hui suranné. De l'effervescence de Saint-Germain-des-Prés aux plages de Saint-Tropez, des plateaux de tournage romains à Malibu, Vadim s'est inventé un destin avec désinvolture, croisant Brando, Sagan, Mitterrand, Godard, Warhol… Clément Ghys raconte ce personnage romanesque né en 1928, mort en 2000. Avec un regard contemporain, il interroge notre nostalgie pour une époque où le plaisir se vivait sans remords. Un portrait intime.
