À commencer par trois films puissants de Kubrick : "2001", "Orange mécanique" et "Barry Lyndon" qui viennent respectivement, capter, capturer, captiver le spectateur pour le transporter jusqu'au seuil d'un ailleurs où il vibrera d'émotions. Cet essai veut forger théoriquement ces trois modalités de l'attraction et montrer comment elles nous permettent de mieux appréhender le phénomène de la fiction et la question de l'art au cinéma.
