Book Presentation:
Saül Birnbaum, survivant d'une famille de restaurateurs judéo-polonais, fuit l'Autriche à l'âge de 6 ans, après la Nuit de cristal, par un Kindertransport, et trouve refuge à Bruxelles où il sera caché de 1942 à 1944. Fasciné par le cinéma hollywoodien qu'il découvre à la Libération, il réalise son rêve américain en ouvrant un delicatessen à New York. Une ébauche de scénario laissée en gage par un client impécunieux lui permet de devenir producteur de cinéma. Il parvient à monter la production d'un film et à convaincre une star d'y jouer. Pourtant, Saül demeure hanté par sa jeunesse dramatique et par la nostalgie de son amour d'enfance, Hilde, nièce d'Hitler.
