Tous deux passionnés de théâtre, admirateurs de la grande actrice Huma Rojo, ils vont la voir jouer dans Un tramway nommé désir ; leurs destins vont tragiquement se croiser ce soir-là... Pedro Almodovar signe avec son dernier film un mélodrame d'aujourd'hui, où se rencontrent, entre Madrid et Barcelone, des personnages de femmes exceptionnelles de force et de courage. Certaines jouent la comédie sur scène, d'autres se travestissent dans la rue. La vie se mêle au théâtre et lorsque les actrices quittent les feux de la rampe, c'est pour retrouver les mirages de la vie. Avec Cecilia Roth, Marisa Paredes, Candela Pena, Antonia San Juan, Penelope Cruz. Tout sur ma mère est dédié à Bette Davis, Gena Rowlands et Romy Schneider.
