Book Presentation:
Cinéaste ayant su mêler le souffle des fresques à la délicatesse des miniatures, Raymond Bernard (1891-1977) a marqué les années 20 et 30 par quelques œuvres magistrales : héritier de Griffith dans Le miracle des loups (1924), il signe avec Le joueur d'échecs (1926) l'un des sommets du cinéma muet français. Après d'autres chef-d'œuvres, il est éloigné des studios sous l'Occupation et ne retrouvera pas après-guerre le niveau de ces grandes productions, mais tournera encore quelques films notables (Le jugement de Dieu, 1950).
