Mireille, que tous les grands du music-hall considèrent comme la mère de la chanson moderne, nous raconte sa vie.
A trois ans, la petite Mireille tape déjà sur un piano. A huit, elle entre au Conservatoire. A vingt, Noël Coward l'engage pour chanter "Bitter Sweet" à New York. C'est à Hollywood qu'elle apprend qu'une de ses chansons, "Couchés dans le foin", fait un triomphe. Revenue à paris, Mireille écrit chanson sur chanson que Pils et Tabet, Jean Sablon, Maurice Chevalier et Yves Montand rendront célèbres dans le monde entier. En 1937, Mireille épouse l'écrivain Emmanuel Berl, dont les intimes s'appellent Colette, André Malraux, Paul Morand, Drieu la Rochelle, Albert Camus.
En 1955, sur les conseils de Sacha Guitry, elle crée le Petit Conservatoire de le chanson où elle forme, de Hugues Aufray à Françoise Hardy, toute une génération de chanteurs.
Aujourd'hui, survolant sa longue vie, Mireille en récolte, à sa façon qui est aigue et alerte, grave et ironique, le bon grain.
