About the Author:
Documentariste, historien du cinéma et critique de films, Richard Schickel a publié plus de trente ouvrages et produit, écrit et réalisé plus de trente films pour la télévision. De sa filmographie récente, nous retiendrons You Must Remember This, une histoire de la Warner Bros en cinq parties; Charlie: The Life and Art of Charles Chaplin ; Woody Allen: A Life in Film ; Scorceses on Scorcese ; Watch the Skies!, une histoire de la science-fiction dans les années 1950; et Ron Howard: 50 Years in Film, le vingtième épisode de la série des portraits de grands cinéastes américains entreprise par Richard Schickel il y a quatre décennies. Sur le cinéma, il a notamment écrit You Must Remember This, le livre qui accompagne la saga télévisée; Film on Paper, une série d'essais; Elia Kazan : A Biography; The Essential Chaplin, une anthologie d'écrits critiques sur l'acteur; The Disney Version, une étude de la vie, de l'époque et de l'art de Walt Disney; D.W. Griffith: An American Life ; Brando : A Life in Our Times ; Clint Eastwood: A Biography; et Good Morning, Mr Zip Zip Zip, qui évoque ses premières années de cinéphile. Critique de cinéma pour Life et Time pendant quarante-trois ans, Schickel a été nommé docteur honoris causa par l'American Film Institute et obtenu une bourse du Guggenheim. Son travail a notamment été récompensé par le British Institute Book Prize, le Maurice Bessy Prize pour la critique de film, le National Board of Review's William K.
