Sa vie est étroitement liée à tout ce que le cinéma américain des années 30 à 50 comptait d'important : George Cukor, qui la lança; Howard Hughes, son amant milliardaire; John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Henry Fonda, ses partenaires inoubliables bien sûr, Spencer Tracy, le seul homme qu'elle avoue avoir jamais aimé !
