L'auteur imagine la cérémonie d'anniversaire du cinéaste Rainer Werner Fassbinder, à la fin de sa vie, en 1982. Il a 37 ans, l'action se déroule à Munich, ville où il est né. Dans cette séquence où Fassbinder est spectateur de sa propre fête, on remonte le fil du temps. Des premiers tournages à la fresque Berlin Alexanderplatz, d'un amour pour ses comédiennes Hannah Schygulla et Ingrid Caven à la volonté de mener une expérience frénétique jusqu au bout, dans la vie et dans l'art.
