Tout le monde connaît la grâce fascinante d'Audrey Hepburn, mais peu savent qu'elle a vécu à Rome plus de vingt ans, depuis le tournage de Vacances romaines en 1953, du temps de ses mariages avec Mel Ferrer puis Andrea Dotti avec lesquels elle a eu deux fils –Sen Ferre et Luca Dotti.
Ce récit photographique, fruit d'une recherche iconographique approfondie dans les archives internationales et cinématographiques, illustre la transformation progressive d'Audrey : la diva inaccessible d'Hollywood devient une actrice confirmée en Italie, une femme et une mère. Quand elle s'éloigne de la scène au cours des années 1970, elle reste plus que jamais romaine d'adoption et renforce son lien avec la ville. Une Audrey inédite, à l'écart des feux de la rampe qui ont fait d'elle une inoubliable star : c'est toujours elle qui détient le record du nombre de couvertures de magazines.
Le second fils d'Audrey, Luca Dotti, nous offre en préface un portrait privé et intime de sa mère.
