Cette histoire du cinéma rapporte les évènements qui ont marqué l'histoire du cinéma année par année, mois par mois : évolutions techniques, sortie de films importants, etc. L'auteur a adopté une approche factuelle et s'est efforcé de remettre en lumière des évènements qui ont été occultés par d'autres. Un remarquable travail d'historien.
