Peut-être parce que la carrière de Sean Connery, aussi internationale et mondiale fut-elle, a fait de lui une authentique « star de cinéma », échappant à toute mesquinerie, à toute prétention et à toute concession à la mode. Son incarnation de James Bond fit incontestablement de lui une immense vedette et posa les jalons de l'une des franchises les plus profitables de l'histoire du cinéma. Bond et Connery explosèrent en même temps, mais c'est Connery, et non Bond, dont l'aura puissante lui permit d'accéder à d'autres registres et d'autres rôles. Connery peut se faire aussi cool et charismatique que Steve McQueen, aussi élégant que Katherine Hepburn ou aussi généreux que Frank Sinatra. Selon Audrey Hepburn : « seules deux stars à ma connaissance n ont pas changé malgré leur énorme succès : Sean Connery et Lassie». Deux écossais.
