Ce livre abondamment illustré s'ouvre sur un panorama du film noir et couvre ses plus grands thèmes, chapitre par chapitre (le crime parfait, l'obscurité et la corruption, l'amour en cavale, le poids du passé, etc.), permettant ainsi aux amateurs comme aux passionnés de pénétrer au cœur du film noir. About the authors:
Paul Duncan a dirigé la publication de plus de 50 titres sur le cinéma pour TASCHEN, notamment The Ingmar Bergman Archives, lauréat d'un prix littéraire. Il est aussi l'auteur des ouvrages Alfred Hitchcock et Stanley Kubrick dans la collection Cinéma. À propos des auteurs: Producteur, critique et historien du cinéma, Alain Silver est l'auteur de 20 ouvrages sur le cinéma, dont The Noir Style, LA Noir et la série Film Noir Reader, ainsi que Steve McQueen, Frank Sinatra et Katharine Hepburn pour la série Icon de TASCHEN. Il a réalisé des commentaires audio pour les DVD de grands classiques du film noir, notamment Appelez Nord 777 et Assurance sur la mort. Membre de la Directors Guild of America, de la Screen Actors Guild et de la Writers Guild of America, il est diplômé en production cinématographique et en études critiques de l'université UCLA. James Ursini a co-écrit et co-édité onze ouvrages avec Alain Silver : on les considère comme deux des plus grands spécialistes du film noir. Ursini a notamment publié des ouvrages aussi populaires que la série Film Noir Reader. Il a également contribué à plusieurs magazines de cinéma et assure le commentaire audio de nombreux DVD de films noirs classiques. Il possède un doctorat de cinéma et a donné des cours de réalisation dans des universités de la région de Los Angeles.
