Parue en feuilleton en 1919, cette version romancée des Araignées, premier grand film de Fritz Lang, est le seul texte de fiction écrit par le réalisateur. Les amateurs du cinéaste y retrouveront tout son sens de l'aventure, son goût du mystère. Récit au rythme trépidant, typique des feuilletons de l'époque, Les Araignées annonce par toute une série de motifs les chefs-d'œuvre ultérieurs de Lang, de Dr Mabuse au Tombeau hindou en passant par Les Contrebandiers de Moonfleet.
