Book Presentation:
Né en 1923, Alexandre Astruc signe ses premiers articles dans la presse littéraire sous l'Occupation, se lie d'amitié avec Sartre et Vian et publie son premier roman, Les Vacances (Gallimard, 1945) tout en suivant pour Combat le procès de Brasillach. Mais l'écriture nourrit en lui une nouvelle passion : le cinéma. En 1948, deux articles-manifestes – « La caméra-stylo » et « L'avenir du cinéma » – font de lui le prophète du cinéma d'auteur et le « tonton de la Nouvelle Vague », ainsi que l'appellera Godard. Passant de la théorie à la pratique, il met en scène son premier long-métrage, Les Mauvaises rencontres (1955). C'est le début d'une brillante série de films, ainsi qu'une collaboration à la télévision naissante, pour laquelle il adapte les chefs-d'œuvre de Balzac, Maupassant (Une vie, 1958), Flaubert (L'Éducation sentimentale) et Poe (Le Puits et le Pendule, 1963). Desnos, Cocteau, Vadim, Bardot, Sagan, Vilar, mais aussi Heidegger, Welles, Langlois, Bachelard, Queneau, Camus, Nimier et, bien sûr, toute l'équipe des Cahiers du cinéma… Astruc les a tous connus, tous sont au générique de ces entretiens.
